The gay marriage play 8, by Dustin Lance Black, which was done in New York as a benefit reading in 2011, is going to be performed all over the country this year, as a staged reading. The readings kick off with a major event in LA on March 3, in which the performers include George Clooney, Matthew Morrison and Jesse Tyler Fergson.
Uptown Players has reportedly signed on to particpate, and according to our friends at the Dallas Voice, it will happen in September for Dallas Pride. No date or details have been announced. The play basically comes from the legal texts from the trial surrounding the Mormon-backed Proposition 8 in California in 2010. About 40 readings in 17 states are being planned.
Black is the Oscar-winning screenwriter of Milk and J. Edgar, among other films. He also wrote for the HBO series Big Love.
We'll keep you posted.
