PERFORMING ARTS NEWS AND NOTES

DFW Actors Give Back Raises 15K Money from 2011 holiday charity CD, Holidazzle, presented to Jonathan's Place.

DFW Actors Give Back, the organization of local actors that recorded a second holiday charity CD in 2011, Holidazzle Act II, has announced that it raised $15,000 from album sales. All of that money goes to Jonathan's Place. That is $5,000 more than the group raised from the first album in 2009.

Our review of Holidazzle Act II is here.

And here's the news release from DFW Actors Give Back:

DFW Actors Give Back proudly announces that sales from Holidazzle Act II raised $15,000 benefiting Jonathan's Place!

Holidazzle Act II brought together the shining stars of the Dallas/Fort Worth Musical Theatre scene in 2011 to produce and sell Holidazzle Act II, a compilation of holiday songs ranging from the traditional to the contemporary. Each track features a different solo or group performance.

The first album created by DFW Actors Give Back, Holidazzle 2009, resulted in a donation of nearly $10,000 to Jonathan's Place. Despite the current economy, DFW Actors Give Back President, Bob Hess, hoped that the 2011 donation would exceed the first. "To raise $15,000 this year was a tremendous accomplishment. We are lucky to be part of such a generous arts community, and we thank the individuals and organizations who made it possible," says Hess. He continues, "The most outstanding sales came from Flower Mound Performing Arts Theatre (FMPAT), Theatre Three and WaterTower Theatre. Additionally, FMPAT went above and beyond by collecting well over $2,000 in donations during the run of their holiday show! We couldn't have reached our goal without this kind of incredible support." Hess and the DFW Actors Give Back board are thrilled their efforts could bring hope to children in need.

Jonathan's Place has been providing residential care and specialized services to the abused and neglected children of North Texas for almost 20 years. They do this through three programs—an Emergency Shelter, a Foster & Adoptive Family Program and a Girls Treatment Program. Jonathan's Place depends on the generosity of the community to give these children a bright future and the opportunity to be a child. "We are so honored to have such wonderful support from DFW Actors Give Back and the arts community of Dallas/Fort Worth," says Jonathan's Place Development and Communications Director, Doug Hood. "To see and hear their dedication to this project was amazing, especially when they talked about doing it because of their love for and desire to help children that have suffered so much. While the financial contribution is truly amazing, it is the community awareness of Jonathan's Place and child abuse that will have the greatest lasting effect. We can't thank them enough for all they did on both Holidazzle CDs because they and their supporters have made a difference in hundreds of children's lives."

Stay tuned for news about the next album created by artists of the DFW theatre community uniting for children!

Local theaters that sold Holidazzle Act II this year are Circle Theatre, Dallas Children's Theater, Flower Mound Performing Arts Theatre, Kitchen Dog Theater, One Thirty Productions, Onstage in Bedford, Stage West, Theatre Arlington, Theatre Three and WaterTower Theatre.
