Stage West announces winners of its Texas Playwriting Contest.

Stage West has announced the winners of its Fourth Annual Texas Playwriting Contest. The 57 entries were narrowed down to a final four, and judging was 100 percent blind. All plays were submitted by April 15. Each of the winning playwrights has lived in Texas for at least two years.

The first place winner will receive a cash prize and a professional reading/workshop in February, 2011, during Stage West’s New Play Reading Festival. The runner-up will also receive a reading/workshop during the festival.

Here are the winners:

  • First Place: The Sports Page by Larry Herold of Dallas
  • Second: Nick Strickland’s Sycamore Service by Harold Smith of Sacramento, Calif.
  • Third: Commandments by Matthew George of New Haven, Conn.
  • Fourth: Güerita by L. Adelina Treviño Bradshaw of  Dallas

Stage West will begin accepting submissions for the Fifth Annual Texas Playwriting Contest in January 2011. Thanks For Reading
