1 commentFort Worth's Artes de la Rosa is going for a more family-friendly approach to its theatrical selections in its 2013 season. Recently, the Latino group has staged four plays and/or musicals, and it's doing that again next year, although two are for young audiences: The Outsiders and, for very young audiences, Dora the Explorer Live. For adults, there's the regional premiere of the Tony-winning musical In the Heights in the spring, and in the fall, Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet.
"It's always an exciting time when an arts organization announces a year's line-up of programming, and our 2013 season lives up to our grand tradition of exciting, innovative, and educational cultural programing," says ADLR Artistic Director Adam Adolfo in the news release. "I know Fort Worth and the North Texas community will be excited to take this coming year's journey with us as we endeavor to entertain, enlighten, and enrich the lives of our patrons."
Here's an overview of the season, which also lists non-theatrical events, such as a Peruvian Film Festival and the annual Day of the Dead celebration.

THE PERUVIAN FILM FESTIVAL
MARCH 22 – 24
Presented through special Collaboration with the Consulate General of Peru
Artes de la Rosa in collaboration with the Consulate General of Peru in Dallas to bring a three day film festival celebrating contemporary Peruvian Filmmaking. Featuring four films, all in Spanish (with English subtitles), this Peruvian Film Festival will screen the films, "Destiny Has No Favorites", "The Elusive Good", "Crossing a Shadow", and "Red Ink". Join us in the historic Rose Marine Theater as we return to our cinematic roots with the screening of these films.

the outsiders

The Outsiders is a coming-of-age novel by S. E. Hinton, first published in 1967 by Viking Press. Hinton was 15 when she started writing the novel, but did most of the work when she was sixteen and a junior in high school. Hinton was 18 when the book was published. The book follows two rival groups, the Greasers and the Socs, who are divided by their socioeconomic status.

Back by popular demand is the adventure of Dora and Boots! Children worldwide cheer and play with Dora as she teaches them songs, new words and expands their imaginations. Dora is a curious seven year-old Latina who speaks both English and Spanish teaching your children to play, think for themselves and the importance of expanding their vocabularies. All across the seven seas, you and your children will sing, solve puzzles and help Dora have an adventure!

DIA DE LOS MUERTOS

Celebrate Dia de los Muertos with our annual celebration featuring a drum and puppet procession from Marine Park to the Rose Marine Theater Plaza. Complete with music, dancing, face painting and pan de muerto, this family event is a perfect way to celebrate the rich Mexican culture.
Season Subscriptions
Season Subscriptions will go on sale Friday, Dec. 14 at the Rose Marine Theatre during performances by the award-winning after school youth education program, Artes Academy's Winter Holiday shows. Season Subscriptions will be available for online purchase beginning Monday, Dec. 17. Season tickets can be bought as inexpensively as $50 and range all the way to $176.
