Nouveau 47 Theatre, one of the newest theater groups on the North Texas scene, has announced its second season. The lineup of plays in 2012 is big on new titles, which is something the group has been promising.
The first season for N47 did introduce us to a new works festival, featuring readings with panelists and development committees. That event, New Works/New Visions, will return in 2012. Also on the lineup for the new season is a full production of a play that was read at the festival this spring, Coyote by Kevin Kautzman; and one by a playwright who had another play in the festival.
The season will close with a collaborative piece that will be developed throughout the year and deals with education.
After the State Fair of Texas 2011 closes—Nouveau 47 produces in the Magnolia Lounge in Fair Park, which was the home base for regional theater pioneer (and our site's namesake) Margo Jones—the group will return to its popular Monday night series of storytelling, music and other events.

A young man named Luke joins a "Minuteman" group working to protect the United States’ border from illegal immigrants. Paired on patrol with an older white supremacist, he must maintain a mask of acceptance in order to undermine the group’s mission from the inside. Coyote was written with the support of a Jerome Fellowship from the Playwrights' Center in Minneapolis. A group of selectors and the finalist judge, John Godber, awarded Coyote this year’s International Student Playscript Competition prize. In April, Coyote received a reading at the National Student Drama Festival in Scarborough, UK, directed by Phil Mann. Coyote was featured at Nouveau 47's inaugural New Works/New Voices Festival. This will be its first full scale production. Directed by Donny Covington.

100 years hence in a fundamentalist society, Jacob Bergson is thrown into a musty prison, accused of writing "The Believer’s Diary"—a book that is sparking a revolution. He maintains his innocence, as his cellmate provokes him, the powers that be threaten, and a young, sad guard tries to figure him out.Prayer will challenge your ideas about the nature of morality through one man's search for justice and redemption. Prayer played to sold-out houses at the 2008 New York City Fringe festival. This will be its first full scale production. Jonathan's play The Beast in My Pants, was featured as a part of Nouveau 47's inaugural New Works/New Voices Festival. Directed by Diana Gonzalez.
Second Annual New Works/New Visions Festival

At Nouveau 47 we believe in Future Theatre. And the future of theater is in the voice(s) of our generation. Our Second festival will continue to be a meeting place for development and production. We aim to serve playwrights wherever they are in the process from first draft to pre- production with stories told in multiple formats. All unproduced. All original. All Nouveau. Seven readings of new plays, and two performances of a cornerstone show.

Using the joint stock process, Nouveau 47 will be embarking on a journey talking to teachers, parents, students and politicians as we dive into a socially conscious experiment in collective creation. Part Greek tragedy, part documentary style reenactment, Education:20/20 is digging into the state of education. Directed by Tom Parr IV.
A season pass is $50 (the three main shows). It's $100 for an all-access pass (main shows and Monday night events). $150 gets you an all-access pass with a +1.
