The third season for The Classics Theatre Project has been announced, and it's a good one. The group, co-founded by Joey Folsom, has four plays — one from the 17th century and the other three from the early- to mid-20th century.

In my book, the most exciting is John Osborne's Look Back in Anger, which is considered one of Britain's greatest 20th century works. The season begins with Molière's The Imaginary Invalid, and closes with a rarity: John Drinkwater's 1918 play Abraham Lincoln (in time for the election!). In the middle is Eugene O'Neill's The Hairy Ape, which was the breakout play that Folsom produced with one of his first theater companies, Broken Gears Theater Project, in 2009. Invalid and Hairy Ape will be performed in the Margo Jones Theatre in Fair Park; and Look Back in Anger and Abraham Lincoln will be performed at MainStage 222 in Irving.

Below is the news release with dates, descriptions and more.

The Classics Theatre Project’s Artistic Director Joey Folsom today announced the TCTP’s Mainstage 2020 season of four classics. The season starts with Molière’s comedy The Imaginary Invalid  (April 1–19, 2020), followed by Eugene O’Neill’s The Hairy Ape: A Comedy of Ancient and Modern Life in Eight Scenes (May 20–June 6, 2020), John Osborne’s Look Back in Anger  (July 10–25, 2020), and concluding with John Drinkwater’s Abraham Lincoln (November 5–22, 2020).

The Imaginary Invalid and The Hairy Ape: A Comedy of Ancient and Modern Life in Eight Scenes will be performed at the historic Margo Jones Theatre at The Magnolia Lounge in Fair Park.  Look Back in Anger and Abraham Lincoln will be performed at MainStage 222 (MainStage Irving Las Colinas).

The Margo Jones Theatre at the Magnolia Lounge was built in 1936.   In 1947, the theatre took on a new life as the place where theater director Margo Jones launched the American Regional Theatre movement.

MainStage 222 has selected TCTP to be among the first groups performing at its new Blackbox Theatre venue.

Joey Folsom will direct The Imaginary Invalid with special guest direction by Chad Cline. Van Quattro will direct The Hairy Ape: A Comedy of Ancient and Modern Life in Eight Scenes. Joey Folsom will direct Look Back in Anger. The director of Abraham Lincoln will be announced at a later date. Other Production and Design Team members will be announced at a later date with castings.

General Auditions and a Calls for Production Team Members & Designers will be announced at a later date and will be open to both Equity and non-Equity performers. TCTP is a professional theatre company that hires both Equity and non-Equity actors. TCTP compensates all Production Team Members. TCTP welcomes applications and auditions from all members of the North Texas community, regardless of age, race, creed, gender, or personal sociopolitical views.

This will be TCTP’s third season.  The Company made its debut in Dallas, Texas with its production of Anton Chekhov’s The Cherry Orchard, adapted by Ben Schroth and directed by Joey Folsom, in June 2018 at The Trinity River Arts Center in Dallas. TCTP garnered audience and critical acclaim for its second season productions of Sam Shepard’s Fool for Love, directed by Van Quattro, and Tennessee Williams’ Summer and Smoke, directed by Emily Scott Banks.

Flex season passes, group packages, and individual tickets will soon be on sale for all four plays online at www.theclassicstheatreproject.com .
