Dallas — Earlier this year, it was announced that the two competing Broadway presenters in Dallas, AT&T Performing Arts Center and Dallas Summer Musicals, would collaborate so that DSM could book up to four weeks of touring shows at ATTPAC's Winspear Opera House. And now that both seasons have been announced, we know how that will work: In the 2019-20 season, Dallas Summer Musicals will present a one-week stop of the Tony-winning musical The Band's Visit, as well as a limited engagement of Blue Man Group at the Winspear.
The Band's Visit, which won 10 Tony Awards, including Best Musical, is a gorgeous but very intimate show that would be swallowed up on DSM's mammoth Music Hall at Fair Park stage. It will run a total of three weeks, the first two weeks (Feb. 4-16, 2020) as a DSM subscription, and the third week (Feb. 18-23) on the ATTPAC season.; Blue Man Group is Jan. 15-19, 2020, and is available via both organizations as season add-ons.
The rest of DSM's Broadway series also has the first local stops of Best Musical Tony-winners Come From Away (which has North Texas actors Chamblee Ferguson and Julie Johnson in the cast) and Dear Evan Hansen, as well as the First National Tours of Frozen and Escape to Margaritaville, and revivals of Cats, Jesus Christ Superstar, and Rent.
