Dallas — With its 25th-anniversary move from the Irving Arts Center to the Majestic Theatre in downtown Dallas, Lyric Stage founder Steven Jones and producer Shane Peterman might have set a new formula for the long-running musical theater company, judging by the announcement of its 2018-19 season, which will again be at the Majestic Theatre.

The current season has seen a Broadway tribute with Dallas Winds (last year at the Meyerson, but in 2018 at the Majestic), the local professional premiere of a Disney musical (Hunchback of Notre Dame), a two-hander musical (this weekend's regional premiere of Daddy Long Longs), and a big classic with full orchestra (Guys and Dolls in June).

Following that formula, the 26th season has a Lyric/Dallas Winds collaboration, the local professional premiere of Disney's Newsies, the Schmidt and Jones two-hander I Do! I Do!, and the Tony-winning Mitch Leigh, Dale Wasserman, Joe Darion classic Man of La Mancha, based on Cervantes' Don Quixote.

Below is the news release with dates and descriptions, and ticketing information.

September 21-23, 2018

Disney’s Newsies, based on the 1992 motion picture, features a score by eight-time Academy Award® winner Alan Menken (Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, Sister Act) and Jack Feldman and a book by four-time Tony Award winner Harvey Fierstein (La Cage aux Folles, Torch Song Trilogy). The Broadway production received 23 major theatrical nominations—including eight Tony Award nominations—and won Tony, Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle Awards for Best Score and Choreography. Set in New York City at the turn of the century, Newsies is the rousing tale of Jack Kelly, a charismatic newsboy and leader of a ragged band of teenaged “newsies,” who dreams only of a better life far from the hardship of the streets. But when publishing titans Joseph Pulitzer and William Randolph Hearst raise distribution prices at the newsboys’ expense, Jack finds a cause to fight for and rallies newsies from across the city to strike for what’s right.

November 16-18, 2018

After the success of last season’s Songs from the Great American Songbook concert with the Dallas Winds, Lyric Stage will again partner with the Winds for another special production.

February 14-17, 2019

The story of a marriage is at the center of I Do! I Do!, an intimate and nostalgic work by Harvey Schmidt and Tom Jones (The Fantasticks). Based on Jan de Hartog’s The Fourposter and written as a star vehicle for theatre legends Mary Martin and Robert Preston, the original Broadway production received seven Tony Award nominations.

The show begins with Michael and Agnes on their wedding day. Their vows behind them, they look forward to spending the rest of their lives together. We watch as they go through their wedding night jitters, raise a family and negotiate midlife crises. Then, after 50 years of marriage, the couple leaves their house to the next pair of newlyweds.

This touching story of two soul mates navigating the perils of life is set to Schmidt and Jones’ tuneful, charming score that features the hit song “My Cup Runneth Over.”

June 14-16, 2019

Inspired by Miguel de Cervantes’ 17th-century masterpiece Don Quixote, Man of La Mancha won Tony Awards for Best Musical and Best Composer and Lyricist, and is one of the most successful musicals in Broadway history. Powerful, brutal, hilarious, and heartbreaking, Man of La Mancha celebrates the perseverance of a dying old man who refuses to relinquish his ideals or his passion. The celebrated score includes “The Impossible Dream,” “I, Don Quixote,” and “Dulcinea.”
