Fort Worth — In the summer of 2018, Fort Worth's Trinity Shakespeare Festival celebrates its 10th anniversary, and it's doing so by repeating titles for the first time. Specifically, the two shows from the inaugural season in 2009: Romeo and Juliet and Twelfth Night. The venues will switch, however. R&J happens in the Buschmann Theatre, and 12N in the Hays Theatre, both on the Texas Christian University campus. Artistic Director T.J. Walsh will direct R&J (he directed 12N 10 years ago), and Blake Hackler makes his TSF directorial debut with Twelfth Night.
Until now, TSF has not repeated Shakespeare titles. From 2010 to 2017, the works were Hamlet, Much Ado About Nothing (2010); As You Like It, Macbeth (2011); The Merry Wives of Windsor, The Merchant of Venice, Julius Caesar, The Taming of the Shrew, The Comedy of Errors, The Tempest, King Lear, Love's Labour's Lost, A Midsummer Night's Dream, The Winter's Tale, Measure for Measure and Richard III.
Below is the release about Season 10, with schedule of performances:
The Trinity Shakespeare Festival is pleased to announce its Tenth Anniversary Season. For its 2018 summer season Trinity is taking a look back at Year One of the Festival with productions of Romeo and Juliet, directed by Founding Artistic Director T.J. Walsh, and Twelfth Night directed by Festival favorite Blake Hackler. With a theme of “what’s past is prologue” (The Tempest), the Trinity Shakespeare Festival is looking forward to our next ten years while celebrating our last ten years. For the past nine summers Trinity has not repeated a play, staging eighteen different Shakespeare plays from tragedy to comedy to history. This repeat of year one in 2018 is the Festival’s springboard to the next ten years. The Festival will open on June 19 and play through July 8, 2018. Tickets will go on sale beginning May 1 at www.trinityshakes.org or by calling our box office at 817.257.8080. Ticket prices range from $20-$30. The plays are produced in the air-conditioned Hays and Buschman Theatres on the beautiful campus of Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, Texas.
In the past nine seasons Trinity Shakespeare Festival has won numerous awards for acting, directing and design from the Dallas Morning News, TheaterJones.com, The Fort Worth Star-Telegram, the Dallas-Fort Worth Theatre Critics Circle, criticalrant.com and The Column Awards making it among the leading producers of Shakespeare in the Southwest.
Aaron Patrick DeClerk and Lloyd Cracknell return to design costumes for the tenth anniversary season. Will Turbyne and Ian Loveall will be designing scenery with Tristan Decker and Michael Skinner designing the lights.
Our company of actors will be announced in February.
