Richardson — It was already announced that Richardson's Eisemann Center for the Performing Arts would celebrate its 15th season with an evening featuring two Broadway legends, Chita Rivera and Texan Tommy Tune on Sept. 22.

The rest of the season is broken up into mainstage, spotlight, theatre and family theatre series, plus the return of Jeffrey Siegel's Keyboard Conversations. Among the higlights: Tributes to Edith Piaf, Janis Joplin, Patsy Cline and Bob Seeger, a dance tribute to Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers, the tour of Broadway's Amazing Grace: The Musical, the 35th anniversary tour of Forbidden Broadway, the immersive PostSecret: The Show, Mummenschanz,  and a dog show called Mutts Gone Nuts. Also, concerts with Take 6 with the Nnenna Freelon Trio, Roseanne Cash, Martha Redbone, and Tony winner Lillias White and Scott Wakefield doing a show called Texas in Paris.

PIAF! THE SHOW features ANNE CARRERE, a young French performer hailed as “Edith Piaf’s legitimate musical heiress.”  Premiering in 2015 as a tribute to “The Swallow of Montmartre” on the centennial of her birthday, the show narrates the rags-to-riches story of Edith Piaf’s remarkable career through her unforgettable songs and features a visual tapestry of previously unreleased images from famous Parisian scenes with English translations of her storytelling lyrics.

 

 

ROSANNE CASH – BLACK LIST RIVER

In BLACK LIST RIVER, ROSANNE CASH offers a sweeping song cycle culled from her award-winning southern and soul trilogy of works Black Cadillac (2006), The List (2009) and The River and The Thread (2014). Featuring guitarist and partner John Leventhal and their band, this concert features some of the most acclaimed and beloved music of Rosanne’s career. BLACK LIST RIVER celebrates the American experience and what is at the heart of Rosanne’s journey as a songwriter and singer, her devotion to her southern roots and family lineage.

 

TAKE 6 & THE NNENNA FREELON TRIO – Spread Love for Christmas

TAKE 6, heralded by Quincy Jones as the “baddest vocal cats on the planet,” is the quintessential a cappella group and model for vocal genius. Six virtuosic voices united in crystal clear harmony, against a backdrop of syncopated rhythms, innovative arrangements, and funky grooves that bubble into an intoxicating brew of gospel, jazz, R&B, and pop. They will perform with the NNENNA FREELON TRIO in Spread Love for Christmas. NNENNA FREELON is a world-renowned jazz singer, composer, producer, arranger, actress and a six-time Grammy Award nominee. TAKE 6 appeared in 2016 at the Eisemann Center with The Manhattan Transfer in The Summit.

 

A NIGHT WITH JANIS JOPLIN

Like a comet that burns far too brightly to last, JANIS JOPLIN exploded onto the music scene in 1967 and, almost overnight, became the queen of rock & roll. The unmistakable voice, filled with raw emotion and tinged with Southern Comfort, made her a must-see headliner from Monterey to Woodstock. A Broadway musical (2013/2014), A NIGHT WITH JANIS JOPLIN is fueled by such unforgettable songs as Me and Bobby McGee, Piece of My Heart, Mercedes Benz, Cry Baby and Summertime.

 

MARTHA REDBONE – BONE HILL: THE CONCERT

Presented as a dramatic musical work with a cast of eight actor/musicians, BONE HILL: THE CONCERT, is inspired by MARTHA REDBONE’s family history in the Appalachian Mountains. This is an epic story of one woman’s return to her homeland on Black Mountain and the coalmines of Harlan County, Kentucky. MARTHA REDBONE is presented in partnership with UT Dallas School of Arts & Humanities. The UT Dallas Vocal Ensemble will open the performance following a four-day residency on the campus.

MUMMENSCHANZ – you & me

The result is a visually stunning spectacle that transcends cultural barriers and sparks the imagination. 

 

CAREFREE: DANCIN’ WITH FRED AND GINGER

AMAZING GRACE: THE MUSICAL

Direct from Broadway, AMAZING GRACE is based on the true story behind the beloved song. A tale of romance, rebellion and redemption, the show follows one man whose incredible journey ignited a historic wave of change that gave birth to the abolitionist movement. John Newton, a willful and musically talented young Englishman, faces a future as uncertain as the turning tide. Coming of age as Britain sits atop an international empire of slavery, he finds himself torn between following in the footsteps of his father—a slave trader—and embracing the more compassionate views of his childhood sweetheart. AMAZING GRACE is an unforgettable musical saga that captures the spirit of history’s sweetest and most powerful sound: freedom.

Just when Broadway thought it was safe from the poison pen of funny-man Gerard Alessandrini, FORBIDDEN BROADWAY returns, sharper and more hilarious than ever! This year's targets include Pippin, Kinky Boots, Les Miz, and Matilda, joining favorites from past years including Wicked and The Book of Mormon

 

TEXAS IN PARIS Starring Lillias White & Scott Wakefield

Nov. 16-19, 2017 (Five Performances)

TEXAS IN PARIS is a musical journey from the mind of Alan Govenar. Akin Babatunde directs the story of a man and a woman — one white, one black – invited to France to perform at the Maison des Cultures du Monde. They have never met, have no professional singing experience, and face the challenge of working together and co-existing in an unfamiliar world.  Tony Award-winner Lillias White and Scott Wakefield portray the pair, apprehensive of each other at first. They struggle with preconceptions but manage to forge a surprising spiritual bond that transforms their on-stage performance and their lives.

POSTSECRET: THE SHOW

Feb. 15-18, 2018 (Five Performances)

PostSecret: The Show is an immersive, poignant journey through the humor and humanity of personal stories we’d rather keep to ourselves, but on rare occasions, share with others. Three actors and a guitarist use projected images and videos to guide the audience through crowd-sourced narratives revealing the true stories behind the secrets. See the hopeful, shocking, painful and sexual secrets that brought hundreds of millions to the PostSecret blog. Explore the movement that has spawned six best-selling books and a Smithsonian art exhibition. PostSecret: The Show is a breakthrough in audience-sourced storytelling that reaches beyond the confines of the stage, reminding audiences that secrets can be both walls and bridges. This show contains mature subject matter – not appropriate for ages 12 and under. 

 

DRIVING MISS DAISY

Apr. 12-15, 2018 (Five Performances)

Starring Sheree J. Wilson & Clarence Gilyard (Stars of Dallas and Walker, Texas Ranger

Winner of the 1988 Pulitzer Prize and the Outer Critics Circle Award for Best Off-Broadway play, DRIVING MISS DAISY is a warm-hearted, humorous and affecting study of the unlikely relationship between an aging, crotchety white Southern lady, and a proud, soft-spoken black man.  Built upon universal soul searching themes, this masterpiece of a play continues to be relevant and stirring. 

 


METHODIST RICHARDSON MEDICAL CENTER FAMILY THEATRE SERIES

 

Eisemann Center Presents’ Methodist Richardson Family Theatre Series is a Sunday matinee series for children and families of all ages. All Methodist Richardson Family Theatre Series performances take place in the Hill Performance Hall. The popular Eisemann Extras program enters its fifth season with immersive pre-show activities designed to stimulate and engage our youngest patrons. Admission for Extras is sold separately from Family Theatre Series subscriptions.

 

THE AMAZING MAX

Max Darwin – THE AMAZING MAX – combines magic and comedy, making objects appear and disappear and generally defying the laws of physics inches from theatergoer’s faces. This interactive and all-around silly show is appropriate for audiences of all ages. Max Darwin has a unique connection to Dallas as the grandson of the colorful former city councilman and mayoral candidate, Max Goldblatt.

 

PINKALICIOUS THE MUSICAL

PINKALICIOUS can't stop eating pink cupcakes despite warnings from her parents. Her pink indulgence lands her at the doctor's office with Pinkititis, an affliction that turns her pink from head to toe - a dream come true for this pink loving enthusiast. But when her hue goes too far, only PINKALICIOUS can figure out a way to get out of this predicament.

 

PETE THE CAT

A new musical based on the PETE THE CAT series of books by Kimberly and James Dean has this groovy blue cat on his way to stay with a new family. He's excited, but Jimmy Biddle is nervous about how their houseguest is going to shake things up. When Jimmy draws a blank in art class on the last day of school, it turns out Pete is the perfect friend to help him out. Join Jimmy and Pete on an adventure of friendship and inspiration!

 

BAM PERCUSSION

BAM PERCUSSION showcases the art of comedy-percussion. From beginning to end, eXplosion electrifies the crowd with its powerful rhythms and its deliriously funny sketches. The pulsating energy of BAM is contagious and through drumbeats and laughs, overwhelms the audience. Add to this a transcultural humor and a lot of rhythm and you get a truly universal event.

 

GO, DOG. GO!

GO, DOG. GO!  brings the adventures of P.D. Eastman’s book to life in a frolicking musical dog party full of surprises, color, clowning, vaudeville, singing/barking, and of course, six lovable dogs! The cast of this beloved preschool favorite has gone to the dogs—with cars, hats, audience participation, and even a wild game of ball as this hilarious visual spectacle manages to sneak important life lessons between innings.

 

SPOTLIGHT ARTISTS

 

CHASE PADGETT – 6 GUITARS

6 GUITARS is a pitch-perfect blend of music, comedy, and characters. CHASE PADGETT delivers a virtuosic performance as he becomes six different guitar players each with their own distinct voice, views, and musical style (Blues, Jazz, Rock, Classical, Folk, and Country). During the show, each of the characters, ranging from a 19-year-old rock prodigy to an 87-year-old blues man, share their journey from discovery to mastery through songs and stories that will have you laughing, crying, and falling in love with music all over again.

 

AN EVENING WITH MANDY HARVEY

SEEGER: A Multimedia Show Starring Randy Noojin

RANDY NOOJIN returns to the Eisemann Center with SEEGER, a critically-acclaimed, multimedia solo show about America’s beloved folksinger/activist, Pete Seeger, at a benefit in Washington, D.C. advocating free speech in Cuba, where he uses his signature songs, including, If I Had a Hammer, Turn, Turn, Turn, Where Have All the Flowers Gone, Bring 'Em Home, We Shall Overcome, and Guantanamera, to tell the story of his personal struggles for free speech in America.

 

SAMMY MILLER AND THE CONGREGATION

A native of Los Angeles, Grammy-nominated drummer SAMMY MILLER has become known for his unique maturity and relentless focus on making music that “feels good” as a drummer, singer, and bandleader. Upon completing his Master’s at The Juilliard School, Sammy formed his ensemble, THE CONGREGATION. As a band they are focused on sharing the power of community through their music—joyful jazz. This is a return engagement for SAMMY MILLER AND THE CONGREGATION due to popular demand as a Spotlight Artist last season.

 

SWEET DREAMS: MANDY BARNETT SINGS PATSY CLINE

Come and hear all of your favorites including Sweet Dreams, Crazy, I Fall to Pieces, and more, along with other classic country and pop standards, and selections from her own albums. 

 

 

JEFFREY SIEGEL’S KEYBOARD CONVERSATIONS®

 

Jeffrey Siegel’s Keyboard Conversations® are piano concerts with broad, popular appeal and lively commentary, making the music more accessible and meaningful for all. Each piece is performed in its entirety and there is a question and answer session following the concert.

Piano and music teachers may request one complimentary ticket for each ticket purchased (single or subscription) to bring a student to experience a Keyboard Conversations concert.

Disorderly duo, Scott and Joan Houghton, and their hilarious pack of pooches take the stage with a comedy dog thrill show like no other. Expect the unexpected in this top-notch presentation that includes incredible high-flying frisbee dogs, tight-wire dogs, dancing dogs, magic dogs and of course, the one and only Sammie the Talking Dog! Their nine amazing canine partners are all adopted from animal shelters and rescues and are sure to unleash havoc and hilarity in a family-friendly performance that is leaving audiences howling for more! MUTTS GONE NUTS is presented as a community family event in support of the Richardson Animal Shelter. Come early for pre-show lobby activities beginning at 1:30 pm.

Subscriptions for the Theatre Series are on sale to the public with a 25 percent discount on full series subscriptions ranging from $127.50 to $153.75. The Methodist Richardson Family Theatre Series subscriptions range from $46.50 to $84.00, a savings of 25 percent off single ticket prices. The Keyboard Conversations® series subscriptions range from $90.00 to $108.00 at a 25 percent discount off single ticket prices. All ticket prices include a $2.00 non-refundable facility maintenance fee. Subscriptions may now be renewed or purchased online at www.eisemanncenter.com/subscriptions.

Due to the artistic diversity of the MainStage Shows and the Spotlight Artists, these events are not packaged as a subscription series. All of these shows, as well as the other shows in the season qualify for our tiered discount flex program, in which you can build your own entertainment package with a minimum of any four shows and enjoy savings up to 20 percent. The Multi-Show Discount Program does not guarantee the same seats, but offers you flexibility of choice economically (different price levels and quantity of seats on a show-by-show basis), as well as artistically. If you are a subscriber to one or more of our subscription series, those shows will also count towards this discount flex package.
