Dallas — For the first time in its three-year history, House Party Theatre has announced a full season of works receiving full productions and in development. Dates and venues have not been announced yet. The plays not by local writers are Shakespeare's Julius Caesar and the area premiere of Hir by acclaimed performance artist and writer Taylor Mac. There will also be the return of HPT's Frosty: Songs of Redemption at Christmastime, and in the summer, a festival of new works written, directed and produced entirely by women artists. The group's new works/drinking game event Thirsty Thursdays will continue throughout the year, as will development of new work by in-house writers Claire Carson and Ted Gwara.

Here's the full season:

Julius Caesar

by William Shakespeare

Sarah Lacy Hamilton directs an efficient, brutal cutting of Shakespeare’s epic political thriller. A breakneck pace and one famous career politician’s bloody end will give you a whole new perspective on the word “backstabbed.”

by Local Writers

In the cloying heat of the Dallas summer, HPT is bringing you a refreshing festival of short plays featuring brand new original work written, directed, and produced entirely by female artists.  These ain’t your average damsels, and they sure ain’t in distress.

Titles will be announced in the spring.

by Taylor Mac

HPT newcomer Jenna Richanne Hannum directs Taylor Mac’s Hir, a new genderqueer kitchen-sink drama. A deep dive into this suburban dysfunctional family reveals a soldier returning home from war to find a sibling in gender transition and a mother hell-bent on dismantling the patriarchy.

Frosty: Songs of Redemption

by Chris McCreary, Jake Nice & Trevor Wilson

Murder.  Love.  Redemption.  Fifteen years after the events of the beloved Christmas special, Frosty the Snowman's life has taken a turn for the worse: drugs, alcohol, you name it. With global warming no longer just a fantasy, Frosty realizes the path to redemption is a dark one.

Thirsty Thursday | 2017 Edition

Year Round

After bringing audiences thirty brand new short plays in its first year, Thirsty Thursday: 3 Short Plays + a Drinking Game is back for a new season. Built into each original play are drinking cues that the audience votes on by round of applause. When you hear that cue in the play, everyone (including the actors) drinks!

Year Round

Continuing their commitment to producing new original work, House Party Theatre is also developing two brand new full-length plays for Dallas production.

Shadow Woman, a gripping magical horror story by Claire Carson, and The Big White House, a three-part revenge fantasy by Ted Gwara, will be fully workshopped with multiple opportunities for audiences to join in the development process throughout the year.

By the numbers, 2016 had House Party Theatre producing a new piece of original theatre every nine days. They look forward to partying that number right outta the water in 2017, and YOU are invited! Thanks For Reading
