Dallas — Echo Theatre, Dallas' only theater dedicated to producing only scripts by women writers—and for 18 years that mission has never wavered—has announced its 19th season. All shows will be at Echo's longtime home at the Bath House Cultural Center. In the middle of the three-show season will be the fourth time for Her Song, a revue of American Songbook tunes composed and/or with lyrics by women. That runs in February.
The season opens in September 2016 with the area's first professional production of Marsha Norman's 'Night, Mother that we've seen in a long time, directed by Christie Vela. In the spring Echo stages Brides of the Moon by the Five Lesbian Brothers, a collective consisting of Maureen Angelos, Babs Davy, Dominique Dibbell, Peg Healey and Lisa Kron. Kron is well-known for her play Well (produced by Echo years ago) and is half of the creative team (with Jeanine Tesori) behind the Tony-winning musical Fun Home. This would be the first local professional production of a work by the Brothers; SMU produced The Secretaries a few seasons ago, but that's it.
Echo's Reading series, Echo Reads, has not been announced yet.
