Fort Worth — After a couple of seasons of scaling back on theater productions, Fort Worth's Artes de la Rosa, run by Adam Adolfo, looks like it's staging a comeback of sorts for 2016. Adolfo's season, called "Crazy Love," features films and other events, and four full theater productions, two of which are regional premieres: Kristoffer Diaz's Welcome to Arroyo's and the David Yazbek/Jeffrey Lane musical version of Spanish director Pedro Almodóvar's film Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown. The season kicks off with the musical Big Fish, which will have several local productions in the coming season, and closes with Eve Ensler's The Vagina Monologues.

Here's the complete press release followed by blurbs about the shows, with dates and more information:

In its ongoing mission to bring Latin art & culture to the North Texas Community, Artes de la Rosa is proud to bring you a season of storytelling that embraces the simple idea that love makes your crazy! Whether it be the love you have for your parents, your brothers & sisters, or that special someone who makes you weak in the knees, there is a single universal truth…Love makes you do crazy things.

Artes de la Rosa Artistic Director Adam Adolfo has aptly named his season of theatre, film, and events “Crazy Love” announcing the season formally Monday October 26.The season, comprised of 4 theatre productions (2 regional premiers), 5 films, 2 community festivals, and a holiday concert, Adam Adolfo will be celebrating his sixth anniversary with the Latino organization and is eager to reinvent himself with this season. “Artes de la Rosa continues to produce powerful and conceptual theatre with performance celebrating new ways of looking at classic themes. That’s been our motivation for years and this season still maintains that artistic vision but is attempting to reflect on more dynamic character driven stories,” says Adolfo.

“Big Fish”, the first show of theatre season, “is a great example of that” offers the Artistic Director. “We’re excited to be working on a new script by the original Broadway team that focuses more squarely on the character dynamics of father and son. This version of the show has a new song and also a reinstated number that was cut right before the Broadway opening.” Joining Adolfo on the production is long time musical collaborator Kristin Spires who will music direct the production. Choreography will be by Austin Ray Beck who provided choreography for Adolfo’s Cuban Romeo & Juliet and the family favorite, Dora The Explorer Live.

With hip-hop making such powerful waves currently in the theatre community across the country, Adolfo will stage 2010 Pulitzer Prize finalist Kristoffer Diaz’s early work, Welcome to Arroyo’s. In it a Greek chorus of two hip hop DJs spin the tale of a brother and sister’s search for their respective places in the world after the death of their mother.  Alejandro is desperate to make Arroyo’s the hottest lounge in New York to honor the memory of his mother, while Molly’s desire to make her “mark” as a talented graffiti artist is at odds with her new infatuation with a rookie cop. Their struggle to move forward is made even more uncertain as they discover what might be a secret about their mother that could change the very foundation of their lives and, possibly, the history of hip-hop music.

Artes de la Rosa will follow up with the regional premiere of Women On The Verge Of A Nervous Breakdown, a musical based on Pedro Almodóvar's classic film. With music and lyrics by David Yazbek, best known for his Dirty Rotten Scoundrels adaptation, the production features a book by Jeffrey Lane. The pair have taken Almodóvar's tale and infused it with their own wry, comic style and an irresistible Spanish beat. Both touching and hilarious, it's a story about women and the men who pursue them... finding them, losing them, needing them, and rejecting them. At the center is Pepa, whose friends and lovers are blazing a trail through 1980s Madrid.

Eve Ensler’s The Vagina Monologues will close out the 2016 season. After a sold-out run in 2011, this epic work of feminine strength returns to the Rose Marine Theatre with a new bilingual English/Spanish staging. This Obie Award-winning whirlwind tour of a forbidden zone introduces a wildly divergent gathering of female voices, including a six-year-old girl, a septuagenarian New Yorker, a woman who witnesses the birth of her granddaughter, and a feminist happy to have found a man who "liked to look at it."

The 2016 Season will again feature The Louis Zapata Resident Acting Company. Named for former City Councilman Louis Zapata who was instrumental in securing funds to bring the Rose Marine Theater back to its former glory, The Resident Acting Company will be featured in performances throughout the year.

Artes de la Rosa’s 2016 season will be presented at the historic Rose Marine Theater, 1440 North Main Street in Fort Worth. For more information on the season or to purchase a 2016 season membership please visit www.ArtesDeLaRosa.org.
