Fort Worth — The 2014-'15 season for Performing Arts Fort Worth was announced Thursday night. The big news is that for the Broadway series, PAFW is forming an alliance with Dallas Summer Musicals, with four shows shared next season. The recent Broadway revivals of Pippin and Rodgers and Hammerstein's Cinderella, as well as the pre-Broadway tour of Dirty Dancing will run back-to-back, two weeks at Dallas' Music Hall at Fair Park and one week in at Bass Hall. The 2013 Best Musical Tony winner, Kinky Boots, appears in Fort Worth in October 2015, about six months after Dallas.

It's not the first time a tour has played both cities back-to-back, but four in one season is a strategic alliance for PAFW and DSM; the benefit for Fort Worth audiences is that they don't have to wait several more years for new shows and tours. In the past, there was a 75-mile rule, so if a presenter in one market booked a show, another market without 75 years wouldn't get it for another season or two. And Dallas almost always got first dibs.

Interestingly, although there's no alliance between Bass Hall and AT&T Performing Arts Center, the PAFW season also features the 2012 Best Musical Tony winner Once, which will have been at the Winspear Opera House two months prior. SHN Presents, the Broadway consultant for ATTPAC, had to sign off on that. Everyone is realizing that there's not much crossover between Dallas and Fort Worth audiences.

The Bass Hall season also includes the area premiere of Elf the Musical, based on the Will Ferrell movie, and return engagements of Disney's Beauty and the Beast and Chicago.

You can read more about the Performing Arts Fort Worth/Dallas Summer Musicals alliance in in Mark Lowry's story for the Star-Telegram/DFW.com, here. And you can see the full DSM season here.

Meanwhile, here's more about the Performing Arts Fort Worth season, with dates, show descriptions and subscription info from the news release:

Elf the Musical

FORT WORTH, Texas, June 12, 2014 – Performing Arts Fort Worth proudly announces its 2014-2015 Broadway at the Bass Season at Bass Performance Hall, featuring award-winning shows direct from Broadway.

Five of the six shows will be on their first national tours: ONCE, the musical love story that took Broadway by storm, winning eight 2012 Tony Awards, including Best Musical; the new touring production of the beloved Rodgers + Hammerstein’s CINDERELLA; DIRTY DANCING, based on the hit movie of the same name; PIPPIN, the 2013 Tony winner for Best Musical Revival; and KINKY BOOTS, the 2013 Tony winner for Best Musical. Rounding out the season is the holiday favorite ELF, making its North Texas debut.

In addition, Disney’s BEAUTY AND THE BEAST and CHICAGO will return as Broadway add-on specials.

This season also marks a first for Performing Arts Fort Worth and Dallas Summer Musicals, as the two organizations will come together to co-present four of these titles: CINDERELLA, DIRTY DANCING, PIPPIN and KINKY BOOTS. The shows will play at the Music Hall at Fair Park in Dallas for two weeks, then come to Bass Performance Hall for limited, one-week engagements.

“This season is very special for us. It includes the two most recent Tony Award-winning best musicals and last year’s Tony Award-winner for best musical revival,” says Dione Kennedy, President and CEO of Performing Arts Fort Worth. “Plus, not only are all the titles in the Broadway at the Bass series new to the Bass Hall stage, we’re presenting four of them with our friends at Dallas Summer Musicals. We’ve presented shows with them in the past, but not a scale such as this. In terms of collaboration, this marks a step forward in the efforts of both of our organizations to bring the best of Broadway to the North Texas area.”

Subscriptions are $226.60-$594. Tickets go on sale 10 a.m. June 13 at Bass Hall or at 817-212-4280 or online at www.basshall.com
