2012-13 for PFamily Arts

The Plano theater puts Side Show and A Little Night Music on its next season.

published Tuesday, July 31, 2012

The 2012-'13 season for PFamily Arts in Plano—the first four letters of the name stand for Plano, Frisco, Allen, McKinney—has been announced, and includes two musicals and one play. The musicals are notable in that they're not done that often: The terrific Side Show opens the season, and Stephen Sondheim's masterful A Little Night Music closes it.

There will also be a 20th anniversary concert featuring cast members from the Music Box Company of the national tour of The Phantom of the Opera, in which PFamily Arts Artistic Director William Park played the title character. That'll happen Oct. 26-27.

PFamily Arts is one of North Texas' Small Professional Theaters, meaning it uses some Equity actors and an Equity stage manager.

Here's more about the season:

September 27-October 6

With expected visit from the writer Bill Russell reuniting with William Park (Director) who was in the original Broadway workshop.  SIDE SHOW follows the true life story of conjoined twins Daisy and Violet Hilton and the people whose lives were lived out in the freak shows of the 1930s who simply wished for acceptance in one of the main songs “Who Will Love Me As I Am."

February 7-16

The play on which the classic Hollywood film was based, in which an aging couple spend each summer at their cottage on a lake called Golden Pond. They are visited by their daughter and her new fiance who leave his son with the aging couple. The boy annoyed by being left with elderly strangers resents Norman's brusque manner at first, but eventually comes to enjoy their fishing adventures together. Chelsea returns, a little exasperated and envious of the fact that Norman seemingly has bonded with a stranger's child in a way he never quite did with her.

April 11-20

Explores the tangled web of affairs centered around actress Desiree Armfeldt and the men who love her - Fredrik Egerman and Count Carl-Magnus Malcom. When the actress performs in Fredrik's town, the estranged lovers' passion rekindles. The encounter strikes a flurry of jealousy and suspicion amongst the cast of characters: Desiree, Fredrik, Fredrik's wife Anne, Desiree's current lover the Count, and the Count's wife Charlotte. Both men, as well as their jealous wives, agree to join Desiree and her family for a weekend in the country at Desiree's mother's estate. With everyone in one place, infinite possibilities of new romances and second chances bring endless surprises.
