\"War Horse\"

Season 4 for Lexus Broadway Series

AT&T Performing Arts Center nabs War Horse, Fela! and Anything Goes for 2012-13, plus Chicago with John O'Hurley and Jekyll & Hyde with Constantine Maroulis. And more.

The fourth season for the Lexus Broadway Series at the AT&T Performing Arts Center was announced today, and it includes six tours in the regular subscription series and one holiday special.

If you're keeping tabs on the recently announced tour of the latest Tony-winning blockbuster, The Book of Mormon, well, it's not on the season yet. But we'd wager that neither of ATTPAC's North Texas competitors for Broadway tours, Performing Arts Fort Worth (Bass Hall) and Dallas Summer Musicals, would book that one because of its content. Look for it in a future season at ATTPAC (again, that's just a guess).

As for what's happening in the next season that begins in August 2012, AT&T Performing Arts Center has scored a coup with the tour of War Horse, based on the same book that was the source for Steven Spielberg's Oscar-nominated movie last year. The Broadway show, which features large horse puppets, was already announced as being part of ATTPAC's next season, so that one's no big surprise. But the movie and the fact that the show won a Tony for best play should help out what's already expected to be a big hit.

As for the other new works on the season, there's the musical about Afrobeat musician Fela Kuti, Fela! (May 7-19, 2013), choreographed by the great Bill T. Jones; and what looks like a dance/acrobat/daredevil/music spectacle, called Traces (June 11-23). And for more circus arts, Cirque Dreams will have its show Holidaze in town for, you know, the holidays (Dec. 18-23).

And then there are three revivals. The big one is the Roundabout Theatre's recent revival of the Cole Porter gem Anything Goes, which features such hit tunes as "I Get a Kick Out of You," "It's De-Lovely" and "You're the Top." Casting for the tour hasn't been announced yet.

For the other two revivals, the tours have names attached. With Chicago, which kicks off the 12-13 season, John O'Hurley plays Billy Flynn. He's been doing the show for a while now. He was in the tour at Bass Hall last year; here's our interview with him.

And with Frank Wildhorn's popular Jekyll & Hyde, the star of those titular dual roles is Constantine Maroulis, an American Idol Top 10 finalist in the fourth season who has made a splash on Broadway, in shows like Rock of Ages.

Here's the breakdown of the shows, with dates:

Chicago starring John O'Hurley – Aug. 14-26, 2012

War Horse – Sept. 12–23, 2012

Jekyll & Hyde starring Constantine Maroulis – Dec. 4–16, 2012

Cirque Dreams Holidaze – Dec. 18–23, 2012 (non-subscription event)

Anything Goes – Feb. 13–24, 2013

Fela! – May 7-19, 2013

Traces – June 11–23, 2013

Season subscriptions range from $130-$1,5000. Call 214-880-0202 or visit
