A luncheon for Three Three's 50th anniversary was held Thursday afternoon, and while we'll have more about that later, one of the important announcements from the event is the company's 50th season.

Jac Alder, T3's Founding Executive Producer and Artistic Director (he's reportedly the longest-serving artistic director at any theater in United States, as was stated at the luncheon), said the 50th season includes tributes to the theater's past with a lineup of mostly new plays and musicals. The biggest surprise is the season-closer, the area premiere of the recent off-Broadway emo rock hit musical Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson (it transfered to Broadway but didn't fare as well there, box office-wise).

The season for Theatre Too! (in the smaller basement space) has not been announced yet, but the six shows for the upstairs season (well, five, because one is still TBA), are:

  • Wild Oats, a Wild West adaptation of John O'Keeffe's 18th century comedy, adapted by Texas plawyright James McLure (Lone Star/Laundry and Bourbon), who died in February. The show runs Aug. 11-Sept. 10, 2011
  • A Catered Affair, the new musical by John Bucchino and Harvey Fierstein, based on the original teleplay by Paddy Chayefsky and film script by Gore Vidal. Theatre Three has done some Chayefsky in its past. Oct. 13-Nov. 12. This show will be accompanied by the musical revue Grateful: The Songs of John Bucchino in Theatre Too. That revue was last done at T2 in the 2004-'05 season.
  • La Bête, a play from David Hirson inspired by the life of Moliere and his company. T3 has done many Moliere works in its history, two of them adapted by Alder. Dec. 8-Jan. 14, 2012
  • The Farnsworth Invention, Aaron Sorkin's play about the rivalry with the invention of the television. Sorkin is the Oscar-winning writer of the movie The Social Network and Emmy-winning creator of The West Wing. Feb. 14-March 17
  • Show TBA April 12-May 12
  • Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson, an emo rock musical about the young Andrew Jackson, written by Michael Friedman and Alex Timbers. The big song from it is "Populism, Yeah Yeah." June 7-July 7

We'll update with the full announcement, with the T2 shows, when we know more.

Subsciptions are $129.50-$205.50. Call 214-870-3300 or visit www.theatre3dallas.comThanks For Reading
