Dallas — The biggest news to report about Brad McEntire's Dallas SoloFest is that it will return in 2018 after taking a break in 2017, when McEntire and his co-producer and wife Ruth Engel McEntire became first-time parents. The next important bit of info is that the fourth DSF is just one weekend, and moves to a new venue at the Rosewood Center for Family Arts, home to the Dallas Children's Theater. In 2014, 2015 and 2016, it was two weekends and at the Margo Jones Theatre in Fair Park.
McEntire is still talking applications for 2018 via the Dallas SoloFest website. Look for more on this event in TheaterJones.
Below is the news release from DallasSolo Fest:
Application for the 2018 Dallas Solo Fest is currently open until December 3, 2017. Applications can be submitted via the website: www.DallasSoloFest.com. The aim of the Dallas Solo Fest is to present a theatrically diverse roster of top-quality one-person shows from all over North America to Dallas area audiences.
The Dallas Solo Fest is a fringe-like arts festival founded in 2014 by Brad McEntire, a solo performer in his own right, with a mission to raise awareness and appreciation of one-person shows in the north Texas area. Now, after a one-year hiatus, the DSF returns for its fourth year.
The 2018 Dallas Solo Fest will feature an eclectic mix of six solo artists over a jam-packed 5-day schedule. Every show will run roughly an hour and tickets are priced at an affordable $15, with festival passes available. Unlike many other theatre and performing arts festivals, the Dallas Solo Fest requires no application or registration fees from the performers. Performers take home 70% of every ticket sold.
The first year, artists were chosen by invitation. Starting in 2015 applications from open submissions have been accepted, followed by a carefully curated selection process.
The six performers chosen for the 2018 Dallas Solo Fest will be announced in early April 2018. The festival will be held June 6-10, 2018 at the Studio Theatre at the Rosewood Center for the Arts, 5938 Skillman, Dallas, Texas 75231. The Dallas Solo Fest 2018 is a project of Audacity Theatre Lab, produced by Brad McEntire.
