DeSoto — This Sunday, the Uptown Downtown DeSoto concert series will present a very special event in the Corner Theatre.
Make that TWO very important events.
The concert series alternates classical concerts with jazz performances and Sunday is classical music’s turn—and they are bringing in a star.
The concert will feature Demarre McGill, the newly appointed Principal Flute of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra in one of his first solo performances. At the piano will be the equally distinguished Steven Harlos from the piano faculty at University of North Texas.
The other important happening at this concert will be the dedication of a fine Young Chang concert grand piano that was donated to the City of DeSoto.
The piano was donated by Greg Emory. It belonged to him and his life partner, Edward Gonzales, who recently passed away. Gonzales was a fine pianist and performed in many local venues and even the White House.
This generous donation comes from both Mr. Emery and the family of Gonzales and will be dedicated as a memorial to Gonzales on Sunday. In celebration of their generosity, the DeSoto Arts Commission will sponsor a complimentary wine and cheese reception at the concert.
It takes place on Sunday, Sept. 27 at 3 p.m. at the DeSoto Corner Theatre located in DeSoto Town Center at 211 E. Pleasant Run Road. Tickets are $10 and available at the door (cash only) or online at ArtsDesoto.com. For more information, please call 972-230-9648.
