Dallas — The Dance Council of North Texas has announced the organizations that will be performing at the inaugural Dallas DanceFest, running Aug. 29-31 at Dallas City Performance Hall. We already knew that the area's three biggies, Texas Ballet Theater, Dallas Black Dance Theatre and Bruce Wood Dance Project, would be showcased; but there are 14 more organizations performing in the three-day event. The Fest also includes the Dance Council Honors, and the entire festival will be dedicated to the memory of choreographer Bruce Wood.
There were more than 40 applications from dance groups, and those selected include Avant Chamber Ballet, Rhythmic Souls, Dark Circles Contemporary Dance, the Indian Cultural Heritage Foundation, BodyArt and Chado Danse, run by former Dallas dancer Chadi El-Khoury; plus companies from educational institutions such as Southern Methodist University, Tarrant County College and Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts.
