Dallas — Undermain Theatre celebrates 30 years with a gala on Monday, April 28 at Life in Deep Ellum. It'll be a Masquerade Gala (so wear a mask), and will also honor longtime Dallas Morning News theater critic Lawson Taitte, who retired at the end of 2013.
Here's more from the Undermain news release:
Undermain Theatre Artistic Director Katherine Owens is thrilled to host friends, neighbors, and supporters, as they celebrate 30 years of thought-provoking, envelope-pushing and culturally intriguing live theatre in Deep Ellum.
The Go Beneath the Surface Masquerade Gala will mark Undermain’s 30th season and the closing of its 100th production. To celebrate these milestones, Undermain will honor theatre critic extraordinaire Lawson Taitte, commemorating his retirement from the Dallas Morning News where he championed live theatre in Dallas-Fort Worth and deemed Undermain “Dallas’ cutting-edge theatrical flag bearer for more than two decades.”
The Gala will be held on Monday, April 28 at 6 p.m. The venue, Life in Deep Ellum, is located at 2803 Taylor Street, Dallas, TX 75226. The evening will consist of a VIP Cocktail Reception, Dinner and Signature Cocktails, Live Music and Dancing and a unique Silent Auction. Appetizers and desserts have been donated by several Deep Ellum eateries.
Through its time producing new theater in Dallas, Undermain has been hailed as “an unsung American treasure” by Backstage Magazine and praised for “seeding the ground for a writer-friendly town” by American Theatre Magazine.
Undermain Theatre was founded in 1984 by a group of artists who transformed a warehouse basement under Main Street in Dallas into a unique performance space and began producing new and experimental plays. Under the guidance of Artistic Director Katherine Owens, the company’s reputation grew in Dallas’ artistic community and beyond. The San Diego Union Tribune called Undermain “one of the best small theaters in America.” Soon Undermain was home to many world and regional premieres of new work and its acting company, anchored by Executive Producer Bruce DuBose (winner of D Magazine’s “Best Actor” award), became leading figures in the Dallas theatre community. The 30th Anniversary Gala will celebrate their wonderful and storied legacy and at the same time will welcome a bright theatrical future.
Individual tickets for the Gala begin at $75. Table sponsorship opportunities are also available.
