DallasAndy Baldwin, local actor and director, is launching a new immersive theatrical experience that will debut in June at the Margo Jones Theatre, with hopes of finding a more permanent space in the future. A "speakeasy experience," it will include actors and musicians and the audience participating in a show with a loose narrative, with drinks and dancing.

"I don't want people to come in and feel like they have to sit and watch a show for two hours and be quiet," he says.

He'll shed more light on the idea when he unveils the plans in a kickoff event to launch his crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter. The Kickstarter Launch Party is 6:30 p.m. Monday, April 28 at the Quixotic World in Deep Ellum.

Here's more from his news release:

The prohibition experience has been spreading throughout the country. In San Francisco, The Boxcar Theatre opened their "Speakeasy" with drinks and gambling. In Miami, a restaurant and lounge called "Prohibition" presents diners with a Chicago vibe. And in New York, the underground movement has been spreading for years.

It's time to bring this exciting movement to Dallas. Andy Baldwin, a veteran of the Dallas stage and one of the area's top comedians, is riding the hot trends of the prohibition era, craft cocktails and immersive theatre scene with "The Sophistication of the Old Fashioned". Audience members may find themselves drinking craft cocktails, dancing to the music of live jazz musicians, or even being dragged into the show.

On Monday Evening, April 28, 2014, Andy Baldwin and company will celebrate the launch of their crowd-funding campaign through in order to mount a weekend run of the immersive, speak-easy, Vaudeville experience. Those in attendance will enjoy live music, dancing, and performances of original pieces from the experience, all while drinking prohibition-style cocktails from a cash bar.

The festivities will be held at Deep Ellum's The Quixotic World with a $10 suggested donation at the door. All who donate will receive a raffle ticket for a chance to win door prizes at the end of the evening.
