Dallas — The guest for this edition of Gregorian Rants is the excellent choreographer/director Kyle Lang. He is in Dallas to stage The Dallas Opera’s season-opening production of Mozart’s delightful opera The Magic Flute. Lang has worked for most of the major opera houses in one or the other disciplines — sometimes both. We last saw his work in 2015 as choreographer for the Fort Worth Opera’s production of Verdi’s La traviata. While there is only one ballet moment in this three-hanky opera, Lang did such a fine job that my review singled it out as one of the highlights. In this Rant, he talks about Magic Flute as well as the mental processes he goes through to prepare for such a daunting task.
The Magic Flute runs Oct. 18-Nov. 3 at the AT&T Performing Arts Center’s Winspear Opera House. For more information, click here.
