LakeCities Ballet Theatre's The Nutcracker

It’s the most wonderful time of year y’all! It’s time to decide which production of The Nutcracker you are going to take your family to see this holiday season. Every professional and pre-professional dance company in the area has something to offer, from elaborate sets and beautiful costumes to, in some cases, live music and guest appearances by notable performers from New York City Ballet, American Ballet Theater, Pittsburg Ballet Theater, San Francisco Ballet and Texas Ballet Theater.

If you want to see big names like Sarah Lane, Daniel Ulbricht, Tiler Peck, Sterling Hyltin, Dores Andre or Luke Ingham, then check out LakeCities Ballet Theatre, Chamberlain Performing Arts or Dallas Ballet Company. And let’s not forgot about local stars such as Carolyn Judson, Carl Coomer and Andre Silva who will be performing in Texas Ballet Theater’s Nutcracker production in both Dallas and Fort Worth. You can also see them in TBT’s hilarious, adult-themed Nutty Nutcracker at Bass Performance Hall on DECEMBER 14.

There are also a handful of Nutcracker productions around town that feature live music including, Collin County Ballet Theatre, Allen Civic Ballet, Avant Chamber Ballet and LakeCities Ballet Theatre. Ballet Dallas is also jumping on the bandwagon this season with a harpist and live vocals for a portion of its holiday showcase.

The Eisemann remains a hotspot for many local Nutcracker productions, including those put on by Chamberlain Performing Arts, Collin County Ballet Theatre, Tuzer Ballet, Dallas Repertoire Ballet and Royale Ballet Dance Academy. The Irving Arts Center will once again host Ballet Ensemble of Texas and Momentum Dance Company’s Nutcrackers while Dallas Ballet Company returns to the Granville Arts Center in Garland.. For those living up in Denton, the Margo Jones Performance Hall on Texas Woman’s University campus is the place to be for Festival of North Central Texas and Denton City Contemporary Dance’s holiday shows.

A few ballet companies will even be taking their Nutcracker productions on the road this year. Ballet Frontier of Texas is heading to Granbury, while LakeCities Ballet Theatre is taking its production to Waxahachie. The newly formed Ballet North Texas will also be presenting its version of The Nutcracker in Dallas, Terrell and Palestine.

And if The Nutcracker is too sweet for your taste buds then consider seeing one of the non-traditional holiday programs such as Dallas Black Dance Theatre’s Black on Black performance, Avant Chamber Ballet’s The Little Match Girl Passion, Dallas Youth Ballet Rockefeller Christmas at The Majestic or Ballet Concerto’s annual A Holiday Special.

A full list of all the Nutcrackers and holiday productions in the area can be found below. We also include non-holiday-themed dance.

Editor's note: Because TheaterJones now operates under the umbrella of the non-profit Metropolitan Arts Media, we are noting our MAM sponsors in the list below. Arts organization and venue sponsors are noted in RED. Look for our posting of sponsor-presented Nutcrackers and other dance each week on our social media channels.
