In our quest to provide more audio and video content on TheaterJones, we're beginning with a new podcast by local pianist Jonathan Tsay, called Between the Barlines. Tsay has performed recitals for international organizations, including in Taiwan and Canada, as well as for local outfits Fine Arts Chamber Players and The Cliburn, where he works with classroom outreach.
He talks more about himself and the podcast in this introduction:
For the second episode of Between the Barlines, Tsay talks with Eunice Keem, the associate concertmaster of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra. They talk about competition life in her teens, auditioning for orchestras, preparation, and composer Rebecca Clarke. They close with a fun game with Tsay playing short snippets of three weeks, and has Keem guess the unifying theme. Keem is the featured performer in the season opening program for Fine Arts Chamber Players, at 3 pm. Saturday, Oct. 14. The free program opens Keem leading Richard Strauss’ String Sextet from Capriccio, Op. 85, followed by Piazzolla’s Le Grand Tango for Violin and Piano. The performance concludes with the seldom-heard Quintet for Piano and Strings in E Major, Op. 2 by George Szell, best known as the Cleveland Orchestra music director (1946-70). Joining Ms. Keem are Aleksandr Snytkin, violin, DSO; Christine Hwang, viola, DSO; Sarah Kienle, viola, Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra; Joseph Kuipers, cello; Nan Zhang, cello, DSO; and Jonathan Tsay, piano.
» Between the Barlines will appear twice monthly on TheaterJones.com. You can also listen to the podcast on our SoundCloud page, and look for it on iTunes soon.
