While most of us are just getting started on our holiday plans, the many professional and pre-professional dance companies around the Dallas-Fort Worth area have been prepping for months in anticipation of the upcoming Nutcracker season. With Nutcracker being the bread and butter for most of these companies’ annual budgets, audiences can expect to see lots of finely crafted sets, elaborate costuming, spectacular guest performers and in some cases live musical accompaniment.

If you live west of the DFW Airport make sure you check out Texas Ballet Theater’s annual showing of The Nutcracker for multiple weekends at Bass Performance Hall in Fort Worth. The company will also be presenting The Nutcracker for multiple weekends in Dallas at the Winspear Opera House starting Thanksgiving weekend. Ballet Frontier of Texas and North Central Ballet will also be performing their versions of The Nutcracker at Will Rogers Auditorium.

If you want to hear Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s score for The Nutcracker performed live then you might want to consider seeing LakeCities Ballet Theatre in Lewisville; Allen Civic Ballet in Allen; Collin County Ballet Theater at the Eisemann Center for Performing Arts in Richardson; or Avant Chamber Ballet’s shortened version in Southlake.

The Eismann Center continues to be a popular venue for many companies’ Nutcracker performances, including Chamberlain Performing Arts, Dallas Repertoire Ballet, Royale Ballet Dance Academy and Tuzer Ballet. The Irving Arts Center will once again host Ballet Ensemble of Texas and Colleyville Ballet’s Nutcrackers while Dallas Ballet Company returns to the Granville Arts Center in Garland, TX for the company’s 30th Nutcracker. The Moscow Ballet will be bringing its Great Russian Nutcracker back to the McFarlin Auditorium on the Southern Methodist University campus; but if you are looking for a less traditional rendition to see this season, I recommend Texas Ballet Theater’s The Nutty Nutcracker at Bass Performance Hall, Kathy Burks Theatre of Puppetry Arts adaption of The Nutcracker at the Dallas Children’s Theater or The Hip-Hop Nutcracker at the Eisemann Center.

A full list of all the Nutcrackers and holiday productions in the area can be found below.
