Every week in Places!, TheaterJones rounds up the weekend and coming week for theater, music, opera, dance and comedy performances that are opening/happening on North Texas stages.

This week: Dallas Theater Center begins previews for a reinvented Les Misérables; Ballet Concerto has its annual Summer Dance Concert; and Rover Dramawerks trips to Italy.

1. Dallas Theater Center opens the first professional, locally produced staging of Les Misérables, in a reimagined version set in an uprising that's not the French one of the Victor Hugo book on which it's based. Previews begin June 27; official opening is 5 p.m. July 5, it runs through Aug. 17 at the AT&T Performing Arts Center Wyly Theatre. Photo on the cover by Karen Almond.

2. Ballet Concerto's annual Summer Dance Concert is June 26-29 at Trinity Park Pavilion in Fort Worth, and features a tribute to the late choreographer Christine Marie Hay, as well as the Sylvia pas de deux, Luis Montero’s Bolero and Massine’s Gaite Parisienne. Showtimes are 8:30 p.m. nightly, bring blankets and picnic (and umbrella).

3. Rover Dramawerks presents Paul Rusconi's comedy These Two Couples Went to Italy... at its space in Plano, June 26-July 19

4. Kids Who Care presents Shrek the Musical, June 26-29 at the Fort Worth Community Arts Center's Scott Theatre. At the Saturday matinee, there's a "Meet the Characters" event.
