Every week in Places!, TheaterJones rounds up the weekend and coming week for theater, music, opera, dance and comedy performances that are opening/happening on North Texas stages.

This week: WaterTower Theatre has an area premiere of a Tony-nominated play; Hip Pocket Theatre opens its 38th season; and Fort Worth Symphony begins its monthlong Concerts in the Garden at the Fort Worth Botanic Garden.

1. WaterTower Theatre does the area premiere of Good People by David Lindsay-Abaire (Rabbit Hole, Kimberly Akimbo), June 6-29, with previews June 6-8 and opening night June 9. The play ran on Broadway in 2011, and was nominated for a Best Play Tony. Frances McDormand won a Tony for her performance as a single mother who loses her dollar store job and reaches out to an old flame. The play looks at the dangerous consequences of choosing to hold on to the past or leave it behind. WaterTower's production, directed by René Moreno, features Jessica Cavanagh, James Crawford and Pam Daugherty.

Dallas Neo-Classical Ballet presents Scheherazade


2. Hip Pocket Theatre opens its 38th season with a revival of Johnny Simons' Pinocchio Commedia, in which Carlo Collodi's story is retold by a commedia dell'arte troupe. Runs June 6-30 at Silver Acres Amphitheatre in west Fort Worth. The photo on the TheaterJones home page is by Shannon Atkinson.

3. Contemporary Theatre of Dallas presents Michael Frayn's farce Noises Off, directed by Robin Armstrong, June 6-26

4. Dallas Neo-Classical Ballet performs Scheherazade, with guests performances by Collin County Ballet Theatre and Danielle Georgiou Dance Group; June 6 at the Courtyard Theatre in Plano and June 7 at the Bishop Arts Theatre Center in Oak Cliff

5. The Dallas Symphony does Hollywood Hits, featuring music from blockbuster films such as Raiders of the Lost Ark, Pirates of the Caribbean, Jaws and more, June 6-8 at the Meyerson Symphony Center. Jeff Tyzik conducts.

The Dallas Symphony's Summer Parks Series features a free performance in Klyde Warren Park, with music of the ragtime era, 8 p.m. June 5

Andy Baldwin's latest project, an immersive theater/speakeasy experience called The Sophistication of the Old Fashioned, has three performances, June 5-7, at the Margo Jones Theatre in Fair Park. This weekend is mainly for investors and others VIPs (tickets start at $75), but it will appear again sometime in the near future

Fort Worth Symphony's annual Concerts in the Garden begins at the Fort Worth Botanic Garden. The full line-up is:

The first Lev Aronson Legacy Music Festival, honoring the late cellist and Holocaust survivor, is Jun. 9-14 at Southern Methodist University, with concerts/lectures nightly at 7 p.m. (master classes in the day). Monday, June 9 and Saturday, June 14 concerts are in Caruth Auditorium; others in O'Donnell Hall in the Owens Fine Art Center
