Every week in Places!, TheaterJones rounds up the weekend and coming week for theater, music, opera, dance and comedy performances that are opening/happening on North Texas stages.

This week: TITAS does its annual Command Performance Gala; both Uptown Players and Circle Theatre have regional premieres of plays that were on Broadway in 2012 and 2013; and the Fort Worth Opera Festival opens one new opera, and closes a Bizet classic

The Other Place at Circle Theatre

 

1. TITAS presents its annual Command Performance Gala, 7 p.m. Friday, May 2 at the AT&T Performing Arts Center's Winspear Opera House. The event features dancers from MOMIX, Paris Opera Ballet and American Ballet Theatre, plus a world premiere by local group Bruce Wood Dance Project

2. Uptown Players does the area premiere of Nicky Silver's The Lyons at Kalita Humphreys Theater, May 2-18. The play was on a Broadway in 2012 with Linda Lavin starring.

3. Circle Theatre in Fort Worth opens the area premiere of Sharr White's thriller The Other Place, which was on Broadway in 2013 with Laurie Metcalf. Previews May 1, 2 and the matinee of May 3; opens at 8 p.m. May 3 and runs through May 24

4. Violin legend Itzhak Perlman performs at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 4 in the Recital Series at AT&T Performing Arts Center's Winspear Opera House

5. The Dallas Symphony continues its Beethoven Festival with a performance of his ninth symphony, "Choral," featuring Erin Wall, soprano; Tamara Mumford, mezzo-soprano; Clifton Forbis, tenor; and Raymond Aceto, bass. There'll also be a performance of Two Romances for Violin and Orchestra.
