Every week in Places!, TheaterJones rounds up the weekend and coming week for theater, music, opera, dance and comedy performances that are opening/happening on North Texas stages.

This week: The Fort Worth Opera Festival kicks off, and that includes one of two local stage productions about Mexican nun Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz; Theatre Three goes on a Seminar; and there's tango brewing in Plano.

The Pearl Fishers at Fort Worth Opera

 

1. The Fort Worth Opera Festival opens with Bizet's The Pearl Fishers at Bass Performance Hall on April 19. The festival continues through May 11 with Mozart's Così fan tutte, Kevin Puts/Mark Campbell's Silent Night and Daniel Crozier/Peter Krask's With Blood, With Ink, about Sor Juana Inez de la Cruz. Also, the opera group Forte performs at Bass Hall on Sunday, April 20 at 7:30 p.m.
