Dallas — Audacity Theatre Lab is pleased to announce the 2015 Dallas Solo Fest, June 4-14, 2015 at the Margo Jones Theatre in Fair Park. The second annual Dallas Solo Fest line-up includes performers from around the country as well as several local favorites. Collectively, these performers represent a wide variety of solo performance styles from storytelling, cabaret and clown pieces to pieces that defy easy categorization.

The purpose of the Dallas Solo Fest is to celebrate extraordinary solo theatre as well as increase awareness and appreciation for the form in the north Texas area.

In addition to the performances, several workshops will be offered by the artists involved with the Dallas Solo Fest.

The workshops are a chance to get to know the performers a little better and learn what they have to share about the solo theatre experience. Students can walk away with a fresh perspective and a few new tools in your creative tool belt.

Fringe Fest Touring 101 with Grant Knutson

Have a great (portable) fringe show? Want to tour it to fringes and festivals like the Dallas Solo Fest all around the U. S. and Canada? This workshop is an introduction to the logistics side of touring; the different ways fests pick and pay their artists, how to choose which fests will work best for you, as well as how to schedule, budget and market on the road. Through his company, Minion Productions, Grant Knutson helps independent artists develop their shows, raise funds and tour.

Workshop duration:  1.5 hours
Cost of workshop: $20

Embodied Narratives with Brigham Mosley and Laura Hix

Through stories, we connect.  Our personal narratives are our stories, our process of meaning-making as we encounter the world around us.  Through personal narratives, we reflect on our past, make sense of our present, and imagine our future. When these narratives are embodied and performed for others, they become a powerful point of connection.  In this two and half hour workshop, Director/Drama Therapist Laura Hix and Writer/Performer Brigham Mosley guide participants through a process of conjuring, scripting, and embodying these narratives, ultimately transforming them into evocative, original solo performance pieces.

Dates/Times: Saturday, June 6 @ 1:00 pm
Workshop duration: 2.5 hours
Intended for:  writers/performers
Cost of workshop: $30

Creating Solo Performance Material Through Improvisation with Carla Cackowski

Participants will discuss ideas with the group and then be prompted with different improv exercises that can be crafted into written show material. Whether you're looking for a way to begin writing the soloshow you've always wanted to do, or are looking for an opportunity to delve deeper into work previously written, this workshop will give you the tools to express your unique point of view by simply saying "yes and" to yourself.

And we’ll talk about strategies for finishing and next steps.  Please bring ideas, notes, sections, outlines, sources of inspiration and other half-finished thoughts.
