Playwright Lisa B. Thompson’s witty two-woman show set at the turn of the millennium, SINGLE BLACK FEMALE, will open Soul Rep Theatre Company’s 12th season November 8 – 10 & November 15 – 17 at the South Dallas Cultural Center, located at 3400 S. Fitzhugh Avenue, adjacent to Fair Park. The New York Times pronounced that SINGLE BLACK FEMALE is “a socially significant and very entertaining . . . show that manages to be simultaneously self-deprecating and proud."
This regional premiere production is directed by Soul Rep company member and veteran actress, Renee Miche’al, and stars two dynamic actors familiar to Dallas stages, Jaquai Wade Pearson and Maggie Simmons Ward. The play – filled with rapid-fire vignettes that allow the actors to play a myriad of colorful characters - examines the lives of thirty-something African American middle class women as they search for love, clothes, and dignity in a world that fails to recognize them among a parade of stereotypical images.
