Critically Acclaimed Choreographer’s Festival is back in Downtown Dallas August 6 at the Historic Majestic Theatre~ Utilizing both local and national choreographers, highly praised Wanderlust Dance Project is back for it’s Second Annual Performance in DFW.
Dallas, Tx- Wanderlust Dance Project made it’s mark in 2016, as chief dance critic Margaret Putnam’s Top Ten Performances of the year. Premiering as the only Non-Profit 501(c)(3) of it's kind, where pre-professionals learn and rehearse from some of the Dance Industry’s Top Choreographers, while dancing alongside working professional dancers.

A rare opportunity, unlike any other Festival, Wanderlust does not charge Pre-Professional students a fee to participate, and offers competitive paid contracts to both professional dancers and choreographers. Professional dancers from local companies such as Bruce Wood Dance Project, Avant Chamber Ballet, Texas Ballet Theatre, Dark Circles Contemporary Dance, Dallas Black Dance Theatre’s Encore!, and Dallas NeoClassical Ballet. Our Pre-Professional dancers can be found in the Nations top Professional Arts Schools, including Juilliard, NYU, USC, Chapman, Manhattan Marymount, SMU, TCU, and Booker T Washington. Wanderlust founder, Addison Holmes, started the project based on her own experience. “As a fifteen year old student at The Texas Ballet Theatre School, Dallas Campus, I was given an opportunity to dance with the corps de ballet in several ballets. It was immensely eye opening to dance alongside professionals, with a live orchestra in the glorious Bass Hall, without my parents having to pay a dime for the experience. I knew one day I would pay the opportunity forward to the next generation of dancers. It’s easy to create a workshop for students, but the real growth comes when we perform.”
This year we have over Fifty Pre-Professional dancers, and Fifteen Professional dancers, and a stunning lineup of local and national choreographers. With ties to the Metroplex, New York City based choreographer and adjunct professor of dance at PACE University and faculty at Broadway Dance Center, Jess Hendricks choreography can be seen on dancers all over the world. Jess also founded the Dallas based charity, Dancers Give Back Dallas, raising money for cancer research. Wanderlust is thrilled to see her contemporary style develop on our dancers.
New York City based contemporary choreographer, Samuel Asher Kunzman, will premiere his work for the first time in Texas. Samuel studied his BFA at The Ailey School/Fordham University, danced with the Metropolitan Opera and Ballet Hispanico’s BHdos, and his work is an official selection this June at the Los Angeles Dance Shorts Film Festival.
Boston Ballet faculty member, and choreographer, Kevin Jenkins will reset "Farewell, My Lovely" a stunning ballet piece he set for Big Muddy Dance. The main pas de deux will be performed by Wanderlust Dance Project Season I favorites, and real life couple Dara Oda, from Texas Ballet Theatre, and Gabriel Speiller from Bruce Wood Dance Project. Kevin is on faculty at Boston Ballet, and his choreography can be seen at Jacob’s Pillow Festival, Columbia Ballet Collaborative, and State Street Ballet. Dance Magazine has praised his works as “riveting”.
Tenley Dorrill is thrilled to be back in her hometown of Dallas, setting a premiere for Wanderlust Dance Project. Tenley graduated Magna Cum Laude from Southern Methodist University with a BFA in performance, and was given the Distinction in Dance award by the SMU faculty. She also studied with Hubbard Street, Batsheva Dance Company in Israel, and Lar Lubovitch Dance Company in New York. Tenley was a company member of Thodos Dance Chicago for four season, as well as choreographing “Night Windows” for Thodos main stage performance in 2015, as well as Visceral Dance Chicago. Wanderlust is thrilled Tenley is back in Dallas to create a premiere for Wanderlust.
Arizona based Dana Metz travels extensively in the United States and Canada, as a sought after choreographer and teacher. Her work has been awarded 1st place at the McCallum Theater Choreography festival, as well as 1st runner up in Capezio’s 2010 A.C.E. Awards. Dana most recently worked for Convergence ballet for an original work for the company, as well as her own company, Dana Metz Company, and they are performing in Arizona and Los Angeles.

Washington D.C. native Kevin Pajarillaga, trained at CityDance Conservatory, and graduated Point Park University in 2016 under scholarship. Most recently he choreographed for Juilliard’s Senior Showcase in 2017, the DREAMscape Gala hosted by Debbie Allen, and award winning choreography for Youth America Grand Prix. Kevin has an extremely unique artistic voice. “My usual genre consists of a lot of floorwork, partnering and intricate movement. Also, I tend to create works that vary movement, is visual based, and is honest to the dancers, to give the audience an honest physical reaction. The mood of my pieces are usually conceptual and sometimes dark with a lot of contact and tension.”
New to this year, Wanderlust Dance Project has developed an “Emerging Choreographer” program. We are proud of our first Emerging Choreographer, Madison Hicks, who has DFW roots. Madison started her passion in choreography at Booker T Washington in Dallas, when her senior choreographic piece was awarded honors. Other accolades include Choreography awards at Youth America Grand Prix, and two of her pieces were chosen at Juilliard School’s Choreographic Honors Showcase. Madison was one of six choreographers chosen to create a piece at Juilliard, as well as WestFest Dance, and Periapsis Music and Dance Festival in New York City. Madison will continue her studies at the prestigious Juilliard School this Fall.
Wanderlust is proud to support local companies, and Bombshell Dance Project will guest artist for our 2017 Performance. Founded by dancers from Joshua L. Peugh’s Dark Circles Contemporary Dance company, and Southern Methodist University graduates, Emily Bernet and Taylor Rodman, Bombshell Dance Project will premiere a duet at Wanderlust.
