In 2016 this project arose out of a desire to avoid banal rehearsal woes and embrace a new process that allows choreographers the luxury of focusing on their work. The choreographers and dancers will meet at Life in Deep Ellum on Thursday, July 20th. After drawing for their cast size and dancers, the choreographers will immediately begin choreographing works to be performed the next night.
Instead of being placed in a pressure cooker to see how the stress is handled, this experience is designed to be more liberating. Because of the compact rehearsal schedule and the short turnaround, we hope to skirt scheduling conflicts and lost steps in the days/weeks that often separate rehearsals. What happens when choreographers are not plagued by casting and scheduling, but instead can come in and truly focus on the work?
Made in a Day 2017 will feature the work of Emily DiFranco, Amanda Jackson, Michelle Moeller, Ann Robideaux, and Wayne M. Smith.
