After losing her ancestral Mississippi plantation home, Blanche DuBois travels to New Orleans to live with her sister, Stella, who has married beneath her means to a “common” man, Stanley. Blanche attempts to save her sister, but Stella forgives Stanley.A suitor begins courting Blanche only to reject her when Stanley repeats gossip of the “real reasons” why Blanche lost her job and home back in Mississippi. Sexual tensions rise to a heartbreaking conclusion, and Blanche’s mental state finally collapses. When the doctor helps Blanche up, she goes willingly with him, saying, "Whoever you are, I have always depended upon the kindness of strangers."
