The Wake is about a middle class family’s perspectives on the death of the patriarch, Fulgencio. Playwright Urtusástegui wrote this play to be staged inside of the house of Fulgencio’s family, with the audience as participants in the wake. In Teatro’s staging, audience members will move from room to room in an Oak Cliff mansion, interacting with the cast as the truth about Fulgencio emerges through the contrasting reflections of family members on their father, husband, brother, and son. Their memories reveal the family’s dark secrets, their prejudices, the socio-political structure of their community and more. In the spirit of The Wake, audience members are asked to wear black -- and to experience live theater at its most engaging.
The family requests that you wear black.
