Since August of 1996, SceneShop has offered Fort Worth audiences a theatrical alternative, showcases of original short works- scenes and monologues- written by local and regional writers. Two decades and some 200 scenes later, the ‘Shop is still at it. This 20th anniversary edition - appropriately titled “Then And Now” - features five new works and three “encores,” popular pieces we’re taking the opportunity to repeat- with new performers.
The ensemble for this summer's show is a welcome mix of familiar faces, and performers making their debut with the 'Shop. "Then and Now" will feature Maggie Allyson, Austin Bender, Steven Cashion, Debbie Dacus, Joshua Eguia, Travis J. Fant, Dylan Glaser, John Kellam, Peggy Bott Kirby, Jonathan Lannom, Steven McGaw, Thomas Mullins, Dale Shelton, Kelly Stewart, Forrest Swanson and Kristi Ramos Toler, performing works written by Rob Bosquez, Natalie Gaupp, Grayson Harper, Meron Langsner, and Steven Alan McGaw. We're especially proud to note that Andrew Gaupp, of the UTA theatre department faculty, is directing one scene.
As always, each night will offer live music before the show and at intermission. Opening night (August 1) will feature lively tunes by Dizzy Willie, led by Robert Francis. Friday, August 7 marks the SceneShop debut of singer-songwriter Mark Philpot, and closing night (August 8), audiences will enjoy the acoustic eclecticism of Pasticcio.
