Having arranged for his wife Jacqueline to visit her mother, Bernard has planned a weekend in the country with his Parisian mistress Suzanne and has invited his friend Robert to join him as an alibi. He has also arranged for a cordon bleu cook to provide the food. By chance, Jacqueline learns of Robert’s visit (he happens to be her own secret affair) and decides to stay at home, throwing Bernard into a total panic. The cook (Suzette, or Suzie for short) arrives, so Bernard has to introduce her as Robert’s girlfriend; then when his mistress (also called Suzie) turns up, she... has to pretend to be the cook. Finally the real cook’s husband appears on the scene and Suzie the real cook has to pretend to be … well you’ve probably gathered by now that things are hilariously complicated from start to finish.
