Originally from Northern California, Haley Nelson moved to Dallas in 2013 to pursue her BFA in Theatre at Southern Methodist University. While in school, she was quickly swept into the D- FW theatre scene as a company member of DIY theatre collective House Party Theatre, and since graduating, has turned her attention to playwriting, community engagement, and dramaturgy. She is the Manager of Literary and Community Initiatives at Kitchen Dog Theater, and has dramaturged new and produced works within D-FW at Circle Theatre, Theatre Three, Artstillery, and Dallas Theater Center, among others. Nationally, she has evaluated plays for the Playwrights’ Center and Seven Devils, and she assisted Mark Bly as a Deputy Dramaturg at the 2018 Kennedy Center New Play Dramaturgy Intensive. She is the Third Coast Regional Vice President for the Literary Managers and Dramaturgs of the Americas, and her commitment to dramaturgy and her community has been recognized through several grants - the 2017 LMDA Bly Creative Capacity Grant, through which she explored “Integrated Dramaturgy” at Kitchen Dog Theater, and an inaugural Actors Theatre of Louisville Emerging Leaders Grant, created to recognize employees of small theaters who champion new work development. She is a member of the 2019 Dallas Theater Center Playwrights’ Workshop, and her full-length play “PERAMBULATORY: preambleastory” was featured in the first Imprint Theatreworks First Impressions Festival.
