Mark was a staff writer and theater critic at the Fort Worth Star-Telegram from 1998 to 2008, where he also wrote about dance, opera, dining, music and pop culture. He was a proud drama geek in high school and studied theater in college before turning his focus to journalism at the University of Texas at Arlington.
He is a member of the American Theater Critics Association. Since 2014, he has served on the ATCA Executive Board and on the Harold and Mimi Steinberg/New Play Award panel. Currently he is co-chair of the Membership Committee.
In 2003, he was selected for a fellowship at the National Critics Institute at the Eugene O’Neill Theater Center in Waterford, Connecticut, for which he received a scholarship from the New York Times Foundation.
He co-founded TheaterJones in early 2009, and now serves as its editor-in-chief as well as the Executive Editor of Metropolitan Arts Media, the 501(c)(3) that runs TheaterJones and a forthcoming visual art website, ContxtDFW.com. He has written for the Dallas Voice, Dallas Observer, Dallas Morning News, FW Weekly, Auditoria, Love Wins Texas, Arts and Culture and other publications, and has been a frequent contributor to the Star-Telegram.
In 2017, he was named one of 30 Movers and Shapers by Musical America International.
He lives in Oak Cliff with his husband, Jack, and three lab mixes, Cassie, Cordy and Cooper.
