Mark was a staff writer and theater critic at the Fort Worth Star-Telegram from 1998 to 2008, where he also wrote about dance, opera, dining, music and pop culture. He was a proud drama geek in high school and studied theater in college before turning his focus to journalism at the University of Texas at Arlington. 

He is a member of the American Theater Critics Association. Since 2014, he has served on the ATCA Executive Board and on the Harold and Mimi Steinberg/New Play Award panel. In 2003, he was selected for a fellowship at the National Critics Institute at the Eugene O’Neill Theater Center in Waterford, Connecticut, for which he received a scholarship from the New York Times Foundation.

He co-founded TheaterJones in early 2009, and now serves as its editor-in-chief as well as the CEO of Cloudbusting Media, Inc. He has written for the Dallas Observer, Dallas Morning News, FW Weeky, Auditoria, Love Wins Texas, Arts and Culture and other publications, and is a frequent contributor to the Star-Telegram, DFW.com and Dallas Voice. He lives in South Oak Cliff with his partner, Jack, and two lab mixes, Cassie and Cordy.

So happy that we did not read your review or those of some other theater critics who proclaim to be the professionals. It's clear, that although many so called critics didn't give the musical high ratings, I believe the average Joe who goes to the theater a few times a year loved it. Isn't it those average Joe's that put butts in the seats that count? Yes, it was too loud, but the story line is too touching, the special effects way awesome and Oda May was over the top great. Took my wife to see it last night at Bass and loved almost every minute of it - was a big XX Large hit for the wife also so all is great! IMHO
