The annual Zoo Party hosted by the Van Cliburn Foundation, which happened on Wednesday— the off-day between the end of semifinals and beginning of finals—proved to be a boot-kicking affair.
Ticket holders and supporters of the 14th Van Cliburn International Piano Competition, plus several of the finalists and a few of the semifinalists and even the preliminary pianists who didn't advance—and their host families—came out to share in some serious destressifying (yes, we made that word up, but it fits). This was accomplished via listening to a country band, a little dancin', beer and 'ritas and terrific vittles (chicken and waffles on a toothpick as an hors d'ouevre, anyone?)
We were there and took a few photos. You can also read more about the Zoo Party in our Cliburn Impromptus blog.
