Harakiri is a ceremonial disembowelment specifically performed in front of spectators. This public self-execution creates a ritual of performance in the act of death. An idea that is at the basis of all performance--every moment you step on the stage could be your last; if you do not leave your soul out there for all to witness, if you do not die with every performance, have you lived honorably?

Upcoming shows:

The second offering for the year comes from a recent Dallas native Matt Lyle. Co-founders of Bootstraps Comedy Theatre, Lyle and his wife Kim moved their company to Chicago in 2008. Following the silent-film-on-stage format of Lyle's hit play The BoxerThe Better Doctor playfully satirizes the obstacles presented by the American healthcare industry. It's a live-music spectacle equipped with subtitles and slapstick gags for the whole family to enjoy. That's right. Bring your babies.

“Cycle” is a new contemporary dance piece about the beginning, highlight and ending of a relationship by local dancer and choreographer Favian Herrera. “Cycle is danced by Alyssa Rubio and Madi Frampton.

"Pizcas" by Margarito Rodríguez is a story adapted and directed by Cora Cardona

“Pizcar” means picking a small item, and in the content of our play it implies to pick one cotton bud at a time. This monologue performed by Alejandra Flores, with the support of dancers, mixes narrative and action allowing the audience to travel with an 11-year-old migrant worker to the cotton fields of Texas.

Drama and Humor bring to life the important and often untold story of the life, of children workers and their contributions to our communities, tables, and clothing. "Pizcas" directly addresses the diversity of Texas while preserving our local heritage through a production, which reflects our past and present.

Uptown Players 2012 bonus show at the Rose Room Theater is another parody from Jamie Morris, the creator of the smash hits The Facts Of Life and Mommie Queerest entitled Silence of the Clams. In this parody of the 1990 Oscar-winning Jodie Foster/Anthony Hopkins thriller, butch FBI agent Clarice Startling is assigned to help find Nancy Pelosi's missing daughter and save her from "Beaver Bob," a serial killer who skins his victims "down there." Clarice attempts to gain better insight into the mind of the killer by interviewing Dr. Hannibal Lichter, a convicted psychopath who "eats" his female victims before he kills them. The twisted relationship forces Clarice not only to confront her own psychological demons, but leads her face-to-face with a demented killer so evil that even she may not have the courage—or strength—to stop him!

Cecil alibis to Officer Doughberg as he tries to explain why he and his partner, Pug, were caught in a funeral home in the middle of the knight.  He figures to confuse the policeman with fast talk and mumbo-jumbo.  Actually, they were there to heist a few trinkets, which is what Doughberg figured all along.  What nobody figured on was when Beulah Meadows, the owner of the place, showed up and recognized Cecil as her long lost son!   Cecil, it seemed, was really Jimmy Meadows who vanished from an amusement park some twenty five years earlier.  The two would-be burglars decide to stick around for a few free meals.  "After all," explains Cecil, "we didn't pull this stunt and it makes the old lady happy". This, of course, comes as a tragic shock to Beulah's daughters, who were just about to sell the funeral home for quite a bundle.  "We'll have to get rid of him," intones Gretchen, the oldest daughter, "one way or another'. Before you know it, the place is overrun with other-worldly sisters, whining lawyers, policemen, psychiatrists and nuns!  Is Cecil really there to help out his would-be mother?  Or is he sticking because he has a crush on Joan, the mortician?  And Is Cecil really Beulah's long lost son?  Find out in this frantic farce when two conmen set out to lift a few pieces of silverware and end up Stealing Home.
