Two 11-year-old boys have had a run-in on the playground, and some very bad behavior ensues... by their parents. When two supposedly civilized, supposedly adult middle-class couples meet to discuss their sons’ little dust-up, they raise smugness, pettiness, and meanness to heady new heights of hilarity. You’ll have endless fun repeating their deliciously snarky remarks. After its sold-out run on Broadway, this Tony Award-winning comedy makes its regional debut at the Kalita Humphreys Theater.

A psychological thriller with comic leanings of the darkest intent, The Birthday Party is a study in the power of opposing forces. A sudden shifting of moods-from cozy domesticity to palpable fear-is precisely what defines The Birthday Party and what gives it a continuing immediacy. The anti-hero, Stanley, is holed up in a seedy seaside boarding house lorded over by his dotty landlady and her docile husband. He’s seemingly hiding out from some unknown danger, which arrives in the form of the mysterious stranger Goldberg and his sinister Irish henchman McCann. They arrive to pluck Stanley from his domestic exile as they prepare for a menacing celebration even though he insists it’s not his birthday. Directed by Patrick Kelly.

A dedicated Union nurse and a mysterious Confederate refugee meet on the Shiloh battlefield to compete for the title of Best Female Reenactor of the Year. With their young trainees trying to out-do each other in "authenticity," and a concessionaire egging both sides on, their competition leads them into real conflict with Ranger Wilson, an African-American female park ranger who would rather be anywhere than the year 1862, imaginary or not. As the re-enactment rages out of control, all six women discover that some conflicts of the Civil War weren't left behind in 1862.

CICERONE is a deconstruction of Henry Miller’s infamous novel, Tropic of Cancer, which is a re-accounting of Henry’s Miller’s sordid life in Paris in the 1930’s as an ex-patriot and as a young man who was looking for his voice in writing. In grand OCHRE HOUSE style, gay Paris of the ‘30s explodes on stage with live, original music, dance and riveting scenes of passion and abandon that depict Miller’s “coming to terms” with his wanderlust, his life as a writer and as a lover.

CICERONE begins with Henry Miller (MATTHEW POSEY) as an old man reminiscing about his life as a young man.  The play wrecks back and forth between the older Henry’s romantic stories regaling the past and scenes of his past that depict the true state of his young life in Paris.  Bedbugs, broken zithers, and stinking drains— thwarted love, star-crossed lovers, dysfunctional relationships and the ship of fools that prodded him onto destruction. As Henry puts it in CICERONE, “Love is self-delivered sock in the jaw.”

Regional Premiere. "The passion, the power, the pulse…Maria and her ghost will tell you of the nightly death of tango…" Astor Piazzolla’s musical story tells the story of a woman… and the story of the tango. Part musical, part tango, part theatre, part ballet, and part opera, Maria de Buenos Aires caters to all the senses by pairing expressive, live orchestral music, the passionate rhythm of the tango, and the surreal poetry by Horacio Ferrer to creating a melting pot of Latin sensuality straight from the streets of Buenos Aires… Sung in Spanish with English subtitles.

“Cycle” is a new contemporary dance piece about the beginning, highlight and ending of a relationship by local dancer and choreographer Favian Herrera. “Cycle is danced by Alyssa Rubio and Madi Frampton.

"Pizcas" by Margarito Rodríguez is a story adapted and directed by Cora Cardona

“Pizcar” means picking a small item, and in the content of our play it implies to pick one cotton bud at a time. This monologue performed by Alejandra Flores, with the support of dancers, mixes narrative and action allowing the audience to travel with an 11-year-old migrant worker to the cotton fields of Texas.

Drama and Humor bring to life the important and often untold story of the life, of children workers and their contributions to our communities, tables, and clothing. "Pizcas" directly addresses the diversity of Texas while preserving our local heritage through a production, which reflects our past and present.
