Adelina Anthony is a San Antonio native who studied theater at the University of Dallas under Patrick Kelly, and co-founded Cara Mía Theatre Company. After that, she took off to New York and then California. She moved from LA to the Bay Area, where she co-founded a theater company with playwright Cherrie Moraga, whose work The Hungry Woman: A Mexican Medea Cara Mía presented back when Anthony was with the group.
Anthony, a queer Chicana theater artist, returns to Dallas to perform her solo show La Angry Xicana?! at the Teatro Dallas International Theater Festival at the South Dallas Cultural Center, today at 3 p.m.
TheaterJones caught up with her Friday night at the festival. In this first video, she talks about being back in Dallas and creating the character of "La Angry Xicana." In the second video, she talks about how that character relates to the others she has created, and how she uses stereotype as a comedic device.
